Transitioning from crib to bed

At what age do you transition your child from a crib to a toddler bed? My son has shown no signs of wanting to climb out of the crib yet but we are wondering if you know the age when you transitioned your little one.

We just asked our pediatrician this very question at our 18 month check up. He advised keeping kids in their cribs as long as possbile, aiming for age 3. He said this was the safest place for them to sleep and there is no reason to move them earlier unless they begin climbing out and are at risk of injury.
