Transitioning from 2 Naps to 1

I have had a hard time transitioning my 15 month old son to one nap a day. He is going to sleep around 11 - 11:30 and sleeping until 2 - 2:30 and then I find him rubbing his eyes aroung 5:00. I do not want to put him down that late for a second nap because he will not go to bed at his normal 8 - 8:30 time. Does anyone have any suggestions on to make this transition smoother?

Is there a reason why you are transitioning to one nap? Perhaps your son isn't ready. My son is 17 months old and still takes 2 naps. Sleep is very important to our young toddlers. My son sleeps best at night when he has had good naps during the day. We tried to do the one nap transition but had the same difficulties that you voice - so we have returned to two naps and he is sleeping great. We do have to usually wake him up from his naps, though, or he would sleep too long. His sleep schedule is 10/10:30ish-11:30ish, naps again from 3p-4:45p and then is in bed at 7:30p and sleeps all night until 6:30am. I'm not sure when we will be able to convert to one nap, but I do know that he's not ready right now. Best of luck!

Hi Julie,

In this past week we have finally trasitioned to one nap. We pushed out his nap to 12:30 - 1:00 and sleeping until 3:30. He's doing great now and he is going to bed ontime. The new nap schedule is working great since we are busy with activities in the morning. Thank you for your response.
