How do I fly with my active toddler?

My 18 month old daughter will not sit still long. She hates being in her car seat for more than 20 minutes or so.

I have a long trip coming up with her, and I need to keep her entertained.

What are some tips / techniques that have worked for others? I really don't want to resort to any sort of medication (unless its for me).

Have you tried bringing a couple DVDs of her favorite shows to watch? Maybe some crayons and paper to draw on (if she is into it). I found that when we took our 14 month son on his first airplane trip we brought lots of toys and DVDs to keep him entertained. Good Luck:)

We recently went on a 10 hour car trip. The biggest thing that helped was having a DVD player in the car. She only wanted to watch 1 video so we had to loop it over and over and over. We also brought along her favorite doll and a small etch a sketch. We tried to leave right before her nap time so we'd have a couple hours of peace. :) Good luck!

I have to agree...I think the portable DVD player is the best way to go. I bought one for our little boy and he loves watching Baby Einstein and the Backyardigans. It really seems to do the trick. :)
