How much of a fever warrants a doctors visit for a 14 month old?

My 14 month old boy has his first fever. He does not seem too bad but at what point should I take him to the doctor?

He has been lightly wailing all day, rather irritable and very needy. His fever is about 102, but he drinks water and eats. He did vomit somewhat about 4 hours ago but just that time.

Children tend to have higher temperatures normally, however, always better safe then sorry. If your child's temperature is over 100 degrees you should call your child's doctor and see if they think it necessary for the child to be seen.
Also, it's important to note how the temperature was taken. Unfortunately for our little ones, the most accurate way of taking a temperature is anally. If you have taken it under the arm or using an ear thermometer ( which I have been told by more then one pediatrician that they do not take accurate temperatures)your child's temperature is actually higher then what the thermometer is stating.

Pretty much I have read that the rule of thumb is 101. If it is anything less than that..they usually do not blink an eye. However..if you are in doubt it is better to be safe than sorry. Call you pedi and see what they recommend. :)
Hope you little one feels good again soon. It could be that your child is getting their 2 year old molars. Sometimes those bring on a decent fever.

Our doctor recommended the Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer - $40 at Costco.com.
