About BabyFilter

BabyFilter owner Chad Crowell

Chad Crowell & son Charlie

In the months while my wife was pregnant and since my son was born, I visited dozens of websites about pregnancy and having a baby. While some sites were useful, we never found a community (message forum or mailing list) that was conducted with any real semblance of order. They all seemed to be filled with mothers-to-be and mothers (and the occasional father) who felt the need to tell everyone else when they were wrong and why. Flame wars and lambasting seemed to be the norm.

I decided that a new website dedicated to intelligent parenting discussion would fill the void that I had discovered. I've been a member of MetaFilter for a while, and decided it was a perfect model to follow- a community blog that allows members to post questions and discussions, and relies on its own community to police the discussions, keeping the content relevant and useful.

After a blessing from Matt Haughey, the creater of MetaFilter, to use the name and general concept of MetaFilter for BabyFilter, I slowly began planning. Somehow, between my day job and caring for Charlie, I've found time to build BabyFilter. I feel it fills a gaping void in the internet world of parenting websites. If you are looking for more than what the sites like those described above can offer, please, join us, and help build a community for intelligent baby talk.

A Little Deeper

BabyFilter is a weblog (blog) that any member of the community can post a discussion or comment to. Generally, weblogs are maintained and updated by a single user, but this website strives to foster discussion among its members.

If you are new to the site, please feel free to browse or search the discussions. Drink in the knowledge that BabyFilter members are contributing. if you like what you see, please do join us. You'll be able to create discussions and post comments as well.

If you visit often, you'll find a growing community where people of all cultures and expreiences come together for the common good of raising our children to the best of our ability. You'll find nothing but quality contributions from our members, becuase we all came here in search of a common community feeling.

Before posting anything, we urge you to get a good feel for the place, so you have a very good idea of what people consider valuable. Because its much easier to post something simple and useless than something intelligent and thoughtful.
